NBC Sports Washington: Alex Ovechkin NHL Record On-Air Graphic

NBC Sports Washington was the lead network following Alex Ovechkin’s journey to surpass Wayne Gretzky’s goal tally, making him the second-highest-scoring NHL player of all time. Leading up to this historic achievement, I was tasked with creating a dynamic MoGrt in After Effects, which was displayed live on-air with each of Ovechkin’s goals.

The MoGrt was custom-built in After Effects, featuring three jersey options to match the team’s current game, along with a simple type-in area for updating the score. It was lightweight and rendered quickly, making it ideal for live broadcasts.

Technical:

One of the cool custom expressions I developed for this project automated the control of extrusion depth on the obtuse rectangles: number = thisComp.layer(index-1).geometryOption.extrusionDepth;
